Events

Attend the League of Women's Voters September 17 meeting!
Topic: Second Amendment
Where: Community Christian Church - 4601 Main
Time: 10:00-11:30 AM, Refreshments at 9:30

Upcoming League of Women Voters meeting features Professor Allen Rostron, who will be speaking at our Oct 10 Community Forum on the 2nd amendment. Dr. Rostronis a constitutional law professor at UMKC. Previously he was an attorney at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence in Washington, D.C. While he was there he was involved in litigation against gun manufacturers. At the League meeting he will be discussing the US Supreme Court especially in the context of the upcoming general election, including its composition and decisions.

September 25: Concert Across America

  • Artists/activists will band together for the #ConcertAcrossAmerica to #EndGunViolence with a series of live concerts
  • The purpose is to use music to honor and remember the victims of gun violence.
  • There are two participants in the Kansas City Area:

1) Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village – The choral music in the 8 am, 9 am, 11 am and 5 pm services will be peace themed.
2) American Jazz Museum,18th and Vine, 1-3 pm –Entertainment to be announced. GAGV to participate.

GAGV is the Missouri Chapter of States United Against Gun Violence, one of the sponsors of this event.

September 26 Meeting: Back to School – Keeping Kids Safe in Class & at Home

Dan Carney-Director of Safety & Security for the Blue Valley School District will review procedures in place to keep school buildings safe..

Denise Dowd, M.D.-Pediatric Emergency Physician at Children’s Mercy. Dr. Dowd will discuss the ASK (Asking Saves Kids) program and its importance as kids go back to school.
